The year 2024 on the Luther Trail Saxony-Anhalt

In addition to numerous pilgrims and hikers, who once again enlivened the Luther Trail in Saxony-Anhalt in 2024, the trail itself and related topics were further developed.

On 23 September 2024, a new section of the trail was opened near Bad Schmiedeberg in the Düben Heath, connecting the existing Luther Trail in Brandenburg to the Saxony-Anhalt Luther Trail and thus to the network of Luther Trails in Germany. The inauguration was attended by Saxony-Anhalt’s Minister President Dr Reiner Haseloff, who is the patron of the Luther Trail in Saxony-Anhalt. The new trail runs for around 80 kilometres from Kemberg through the Düben Heath to the spa town of Bad Schmiedeberg, crosses the Elbe at Pretzsch/Mauken, continues along the Annaburg Heath and finally near the floodplain landscape of the Black Elster to Herzberg (Elster) in Brandenburg. There the new section meets the Luther Trail Brandenburg (Ostelbien). Stamping points on the new section are the Reinharz moated castle, the Schöne Aussicht/ Kaiser Wilhelm Tower near Bad Schmiedeberg, Bad Schmiedeberg town church, Axien book church, St Mary’s Prettin town church, Annaburg Castle, St Mary’s church and the town information centre in Herzberg.

The Luther Trail Saxony-Anhalt has not only been extended by another route but also by new stamping stations in 2024: pilgrims and hikers can now complete their pilgrim’s passports at the martas Hotel in Lutherstadt Wittenberg and the Evangelisches Bildungshaus Schönburg near Naumburg and find accommodation and refreshments after a day on the Luther Trail. We warmly welcome both stamping stations to the Lutherweg family!

The homepage of the Luther Trail Saxony-Anhalt is now also available in English for our international visitors and will therefore be able to transport all information and news about the trail in Saxony-Anhalt to an even wider audience. We are thus responding to the growing demand from international circles for information about the Luther Trail in the heartland of the Reformation. www.lutherweg-sachsen-anhalt.de

Our heartfelt thanks go to the Friends of the Luther Trail Saxony-Anhalt and all volunteers for their support and promotion of the Luther Trail network. The trail is filled with life through you and your actions. We look forward to an exciting and eventful year together in 2025!
