The small and idyllic community of Bornshain near Altenburg, a stop and stamping point on the Luther Trail in Thuringia, has brought its local history to life.
Here, where the lovingly designed “Wanderbar” along the Luther Trail has been located since 2023, the first plaques of the “Living Local History” project were ceremoniously inaugurated on Easter Sunday, 20 April 2025.
As part of a well-attended Easter walk, six places along the Luther Trail were decorated with informative plaques about Bornshain’s history. The tour includes the old school, the former vicarage, the Gasthof zur Schmiede inn and a typical new farmhouse.
A special highlight of the day was the inauguration of our new hiking rest area right next to the church – in the immediate vicinity of the Luther Trail. There is now also a large overview board there, which shows all the previous stations of the lively local history. The square not only invites you to pause and linger, but also offers direct access to Bornshain’s past – vividly presented for all those who are out and about.
In addition, all the contents of the plaques can also be found online on the following website: www.bornshain.de/ortsgeschichte
The Deutsche Lutherweg-Gesellschaft e.V. would like to thank all those active and committed to bringing the Luther Trail to life.
