Anniversary celebrations to mark the 500th anniversary of the death of Elector Frederick the Wise

On 5 May 2025, a festive event was held in Annaburg to mark the 500th anniversary of the death of Elector Frederick III “the Wise”. Mayor Stefan Schmidt invited guests to Annaburg’s Renaissance castle to commemorate the outstanding elector with the inauguration of a monument. In Annaburg, Frederick the Wise not only had Lochau Castle extended and an impressive garden designed. Lochau became his retreat and favourite castle. The DLWG would like to thank the town of Annaburg, which is an important station and stamping point on the Luther Trail through Saxony-Anhalt, for the impressive celebration, which was also attended by the President of the German Luther Trail Association, Dr Ekkehard Steinhäuser.
